Motor City Comic Con
May. 19th, 2007 07:57 pmThe MCCC was fun. I haven't attended in...6 years, and a lot has changed. They moved from the Novi Expo Center to the Rock Financial Showplace (pet peeve: I hate it when corportations name shit after themselves). They're in the same city, but the newer place is a lot larger.
I'm not really into comics, but they have lots of sci-fi actors who come and sign photographs, etc. Sean and I originally started attending in high school to get Star Trek actors' signatures.
This year, I got signatures from:
Jonathan Frakes (Star Trek: TNG)
Ethan Phillips (Star Trek: Voyager)
Dominic Keating (Star Trek: Enterprise)
Connor Trinnear (Star Trek: Enterprise)
Corin Nemec (Stargate SG-1)
Billy West (Futurama, Ren & Stimpy, etc.)
Michael Gross (Tremors)
Most of the actors were really personable and friendly. Billy West was surprised at the fact that I liked Zoidberg's character, and wrote "let's go eat garbage!" on his 8x10. ^_^
Dominic Keating told my brother that he thought I was "cute" (while he's really hot, this kinda creeps me out since he's 21 years older than me). He and Sean had a good time bitching about how Americans have bastardized the spelling of the name Sean, and now spell it Shaun or Shawn. Michael Gross was hilarious and thought it was cool that Sean and I both have Irish names, but was disappointed to learn that we're not Irish. ^_^;
The only person that I didn't enjoy meeting was Corin Nemec. He's...kinda a jerk in real life. He was charging more than all the other actors (even though he's hardly done any acting worth mentioning) and wouldn't let you take a photo with him unless you paid an extra $15! Corin Nemec also was hardly ever at his table, which made it almost impossible to track him down for a signature. Although this isn't really a valid complaint on my part, he does not look like his SG-1 character anymore. He looks like a little Johnny Depp clone, which is scary. He was actually talking on his cell phone quite a bit while signing autographs, which I thought was rather rude - he should have stepped out to take the call.
In all, a great way to spend the afternoon while embracing my nerdiness. :)

Noooooooo!
May. 10th, 2007 07:02 pmMy computer is le sad. Ever since I tried to put those USB 2.0 ports in...it has hated me. It is giving me weird errors, not letting me boot into Safe Mode, acting normally for about 1/2 hour and then shutting off, etc.
I think it might be time to wipe the hard drive clean and start over. Thank goodness I backed everything up last week.

Brenda: 0
(you win this round, but I'll be back!)

With my computer, that is.
The good news: I know what is wrong with my scanner. It needs a new power supply. Unfortunately, I can only find one online and it'll cost me $20. For the time being,
skatewabbit has loaned me one that is the right voltage (12V), but less amperage than the original(750mA, rather than 1.25A).
The bad news: while I was at it, "I" installed USB 2 ports on the back of my computer so my new 500Gb external hard drive can fuction better. Well, apparently doing so crashed my system. Like, system failure crashing it. For 4 hours last night, I tried re-booting my system, only to receive the same damn error over and over and over again. And it wouldn't let me boot into Safe Mode, either. I unplugged EVERYTHING from the computer except the monitor, keyboard and mouse.
My frustration level was so high that I just turned it off and went to bed.
When I woke up this morning, it worked.
My system booted perfectly with no errors or delays.
WTF? O_o;

I should follow my own advice.
Apr. 25th, 2007 12:08 pmBut I just can't help it! I'm so damn bored.
Today we were supposed to go outside and get the garden behind the school set-up for the year. But it rained. All day. Non-stop. >_<
So we stayed inside and planted the flowers into plastic containers to put in the greenhouse (eventually they'll get planted outside). But...gah. FIVE HOURS of planting seeds. Talk about boring. And because the classes changed every 50 minutes, I had to repeat the same instructions about a billion times.
I'm tired. I want a nap. And a pony.

Apr. 10th, 2007 11:01 pmGanked from
spyderqueen, who watched WAY TOO MUCH TV!
(I should have made a clause that she couldn't answer any of the questions!!!!!!)
(1) Choose 10 of your favorite TV shows [note: anime not used for this meme]
(2) Look them up on the Internet Movie Database (www.imdb.com)
(3) Post THREE of the IMDb keywords for each show
(4) Have your friends guess which shows are represented
I've made most of these pretty easy. Only a few did I choose really obscure keywords for!

Easter (and Happy Birthday)
Apr. 7th, 2007 12:17 pmI think Sean and I are going to do Easter dinner at Thomas's house tomorrow. This is all part of an elaborate plan to avoid having dinner with 18+ of my relatives from my mother's side.
But we're gonna cook a damn good turkey. And if I can find one small enough, we'll deep-fry that sucker! XD
HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the internet, which turns 38 today!

Arina love
Apr. 2nd, 2007 08:34 pmSo...since Thomas found me scanlations for Time Stranger Kyoko, I decided to also go back and re-read my copies of Kaitou Jeanne and Full Moon. Oh man. I'd forgotten how utterly in love with Arina Tanemura I am. Her series are beautifully drawn and have amazing depth. *siiiiigh*
And while I do love the Full Moon TV series (which I want to rewatch soon!), the manga wins...hands down. I like the fact that it's a bit upsetting, which they completely glossed over for the TV show.
Damn. Now I wish I had a Tanemura LJ icon. I should make one. Later-ish.

Why are we the only country in the world that is jacked up enough to have a holiday based on lying to people? I mean, what *is* April Fool's Day? When you're a kid, it's a great way to pull pranks and get away with them. As an adult, it is nothing more than a day designed to piss me off. I'd love to read the newspaper or watch TV without having to second-guess every damn news article.
Marie photos!
Mar. 31st, 2007 09:55 pmYou guys all know what a slacker I am when it comes to uploading photos online. (Like how I still haven't posted the ones of my gingerbread house from back at Christmas?)
Well, I shall redeem myself (slightly) and post photos that were taken TODAY! *ooooooh!*
Wizzywig had a Cosplay Day today, so I got off of my butt and put Marie back together. And took photos. And here they are. Without further ado.

Thank God It's Friday. The end of the week could not have come sooner. I've discovered an infinite HATRED for teaching middle school math. Specifically, 7th grade into-geometry. Too bad I have to come back next week and do it all over again. *gah*
On a much more fun note: I saw Betsy and Finn's new house last night! Very, very cool. Needs some work, but when they get done that place is gonna be all sorts of awesome. Besides, they're my first friends who bought a HOUSE. And not a cheap house, either. Their new "starter" home is probably worth more than my parent's house. O_o;
Oooh...I have another fun note! Look at me, I'm not being boring/depressing! Whee! ^_^;
John's 30th birthday is soon, and Jen reserved the VIP room at the Nectarine for a party. So yeah. That's where I'll be tonight, folks.
Stand by to resume your normal lives in 3, 2, 1....
