VOTE!!!

My friends entered a video submission of their house to possibly be on the DIY Network's show, "Desperate Landscapes."  Amazingly enough, it looks like they might have an actual shot at it, so if y'all would be willing to help them out and vote for their house, that would be great. [they really do desperately need it]

Go to the link below, watch the video if you like, and make sure to give them a vote of "1 shovel" (worst lawn possible)

A teacher's salary...

Teachers' hefty salaries are driving up taxes, and they only work 9 or 10 months a year!

It's time we put things in perspective and pay them for what they do--baby sit!

We can get that for less than minimum wage That's right. Let's give them $3.00 an hour and only the hours they worked,
not any of that silly planning time.

That would be $19.50 a day (7:00 AM to 3:30 (or so) PM with just 25 min. off for lunch).

Each parent should pay $19.50 a day for these teachers to baby-sit their children.

NOW...
How many do they teach in a class, 30? So that's $19.50 x 30 = $585.00 a day.
However, remember they only work 180 days a year!!! we're not going to pay them for any vacations.

LET'S SEE....
That's $585 x 180= $105,300 per year.

What about those special teachers and the ones with master's degrees?

Well, we could pay them minimum wage, and just to be fair, round it off to $7.00 an hour. That would be $7 x 6 1/2 hours x 30 children x 180 days = $245,700 per year.

Wait a minute--there's something wrong here!

Average teacher salary $50,000/180 days = $277/per day/30 students = $9.23/6.5 hours = $1.42 per hour per student. A very inexpensive baby-sitter and they even try - with your help - to EDUCATE your kids!

WHAT A DEAL....

And the parents don't even have to buy us pizza!

Make a teacher smile; send this to someone else who appreciates teachers...

Post-holiday shopping

So far, the after-christmas sales have yielded: 2 pairs of Nine West shoes, 2 sweaters, 1 bathing suit, and 1 set of Hello Kitty PJ's.

Tomorrow will see the 'real' shopping, though, as many stores down here are not open the day after X-mas.

If a chicken-and-a-half lays an egg-and-a-half in a day-and-a-half, how long would it take a grasshopper with a wooden leg to kick all the seeds out of a dill pickle?

Anyone?

Does anyone out there have extra Frequent Flier miles they'd like to give me for Northwest (can be from any of their affiliate airlines, too) - Or know anyone that has FF miles coming out of their ears, that doesn't want them?  Because while I have a number of miles accrued with USAir, they unfortunately do NOT offer tickets to Asia with their mileage program.  NWA does, but I don't have nearly enough for a free ticket.
I'd pay for the mileage transfer, if someone's got the extra miles!

Out and Back Again: an internet's tale

Well, my phone line was dead for a few days, which meant no internet.  I called AT&T and they promptly told me that it must be my fault, since their computer at galactic headquarters showed no errors in the phone line.  I said some very unladylike things and told them to come fix my damn phone line.

They sent someone two days ago.  This guy was so aggravating.  He didn't even bother checking the outside line before ringing my doorbell and asking to check the connection in the house (aka - it's obviously something YOU did wrong).  Of course, there was nothing wrong inside.  So he checks the outside connection (where the line enters the house)...still nothing.  Then, he traipses down to the telephone poll near the entrance to my drive way....still nothing.  WTF?

And there is OBVIOUSLY still something wrong, since I have no dial tone on one of my two landlines.

THREE people show up today to fix the line.  Turns out, they had to dig up portions of the cable (it's buried) and periodically test the line down the whole length of my road (1 mile).  They found two corrupted areas and replaced them.  BINGO!  My phone works again.  Take that, bitches!  Next time I call saying that my line is dead, please take my word for it, since it had NEVER been my fault.  Ever.

Thus, there was internet connection again. :)

Back (from outer space)

Well, not quite outer space, but darn close.

After a 530+ miles drive home, I'm fucking tired. So I'm going to bed. When I'm more awake tomorrow, I'll post a nice long narrative of my Week With Nature.

Now I gotta go to Chicago?!

Fucking job interviews. No one wants to travel TEN HOURS round trip just to sit in an office in downtown Chicago for less than 3 hours. >_<

I'll stop complaining now, I promise.

But...Japan! With Weyrlady and Mystedraveneyes!

My "new" computer

FRONT FRONT
the front of my new computer. Mostly salvaged parts.
INSIDE INSIDE
The interior. It looks a mess, but it's really quite organized. Be in awe of my THREE fans! Oh, and the 5 drive bays and 5 drive slots. *evil grin*
SIDE SIDE
The side. That baby barely fits under my desk! Look at all the mismatched drives - lol!

Well, that was unexpected.

Spontaneous much? You betcha!

I applied to Nova tonight. We'll see. My mother seems strangely receptive to this seriously out-of-the-blue idea. Huh.
